‘Celtic make new Wilfried Nancy plan’ as sack threat raised after ‘crazy’ twist
Celtic have no plans to sack Wilfried Nancy in the near future and are still convinced they have chosen the right man to lead the club forward.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the “crazy” calls for the manager’s head are falling on deaf ears.
Celtic lost 3-1 to St Mirren in the Scottish League Cup final, a defeat which came as a shocking blow to the Hoops who had expected to ease past their opponents.
As a result, Celtic fans have insisted Nancy could be sacked, and many are suggesting the club made the wrong decision by bringing him in to replace Martin O’Neill.
The boss arrived from Columbus Crew at the start of the month, and is already facing an uphill struggle to get the fans on side after a disastrous start.

Celtic plan to back Wilfried Nancy despite fans claims
Football Insider revealed on 15 December that Celtic have no plans to sack Nancy despite what was a humiliating defeat at Hampden Park over the weekend.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience working closely with elite-level managers including Sir Alex Ferguson for over a decade at Man United, insisted that the club still view Nancy as the man to help fulfill their plans for the future.
“The new Celtic manager is already coming under pressure,” he told Football Insider.
“I think it’s crazy, it’s something that’s been happening recently, managers are being given two or three games and there’s immediately calls for them to be sacked.
“You can play three games in a week, is that how long it takes for people to decide?
“If there was any validity in that, you’d question why he was appointed in the first place.
“Celtic looked at a number of managers and ultimately decided he was the one to lead them forward, it was a long process and they finally got their man.
“That’s not something that they’ll want to throw out of the window after a couple of bad results, it’s a long-term plan with him leading them for the future.
“Fans can be fickle, especially up in Scotland where it’s like a goldfish bowl, but Celtic have to have some conviction in their decision and back the new manager.”
Celtic urged not to repeat Brendan Rodgers mistakes
Despite their early decision to back Nancy against the waves of fan pressure, Celtic have been told they must also support him financially when the window opens.
Brown told Football Insider on 15 December that Celtic made a “huge” mistake with Brendan Rodgers by not throwing money behind his ambitions to make progress.
Rodgers resigned as manager of Celtic in explosive fashion after his second spell at the club, against a backdrop of disagreements with the board over transfer strategy.

Brown first told Football Insider in August that Rodgers would walk away from Celtic amid growing frustrations with this summer’s transfer activity at Parkhead.
A lack of backing in the market saw the boss grow increasingly frustrated, and repeating those mistakes with Nancy could prove catastrophic.
