Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers fires shots at Rangers, issues this warning

By Amir Mir

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has fired shots at Rangers by stating at the start of the season “it was deemed it was going to be very close”.

The former Premier League manager also warned his rivals that his aim is to make the current gap between the rest of the league “even bigger”.

At this moment in time, Celtic lead their Old Firm rivals by a mammoth 36 points in the table as they are on course to go unbeaten throughout the domestic campaign.

Rodgers moved to Parkhead in the summer where he has instantly impressed supporters with his fresh approach.

When talking about the gap between his team and their rivals, this is what Rodges had to say, with the quotes posted by the club’s official Twitter account.

“The first thing to point out is when I first came in here, it was deemed it was going to be a very close season,” Rodgers said. “I only worry about Celtic and taking this club forward and if that creates a gap so be it. My aim is to make that gap even bigger.”

The former Liverpool boss is on course to win the treble with the Hoops added with the fact that he won the Scottish Premiership title in early April.

Not only that, he has come up against Rangers on six occasions during this campaign, winning five of those matches.

It started with a 5-1 win in September at Parkhead and ended with Celtic winning by the same scoreline at Ibrox last Saturday.

At the start of the campaign, the Gers were managed by Mark Warburton, who left his role in February – he has since joined Nottingham Forest.

He was replaced by Pedro Caixinha, who has suffered two Old Firm defeats since his arrival in March, conceding seven goals in those matches.
