Kenny: Celtic may land seven-figure transfer boost amid ‘surprise’ Ntcham reveal
Celtic could possibly have an extra £1million to spend after offloading Olivier Ntcham to AEK Athens.
That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively after Football Insider revealed on 10th June that the midfielder has agreed personal terms ahead of a free-agent switch to the Greek club.
That comes after this site first broke news on 22nd May that the Hoops decided to terminate the 25-year-old’s contract a year ahead of schedule.
Ntcham spent the second half of the 2020-21 campaign with Marseille in an ill-fated loan spell and the French team turned down the chance to sign him for £4.5m.
Kenny claims that freeing up some of the wage budget is a wise move from Celtic as they can use that money to reinvest in the short term.
He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “It was a surprise but if Celtic want to cut their losses and get him off the wage bill, then it makes sense.
“They get some money in, in terms of getting him off the books, and they don’t have to pay him up.
“Was anyone willing to buy him? If there was no one out there willing to buy him then there’s nothing you can do.
“They might be looking at it that way. You’ve got to look at it from that perspective. If he’s on £20,000-a-week then that’s £1m per year that you’ve got to reinvest now.”
In other news, EFL striker “very keen” on Celtic move as talks scheduled for this week.
