Celtic must hijack any Rangers move for top-flight powerhouse reported to be No 1 Gerrard target
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers must improve his defensive options in the summer transfer window and he would do that perfectly by hijacking any move made by Rangers for Fenerbahce star Martin Skrtel.
The Daily Record has previously reported that Steven Gerrard has Skrtel as his top transfer target going into the summer as the incoming Gers boss looks to reunite with his former Liverpool team-mate.
However any move that Rangers look to make, Celtic must try to beat it.
Though the 33-year-old Slovakia international is reaching the end of his career, for one or two years, he would be a major asset in the Bhoys defence and would represent an improvement on Rodgers’ current options.
He has been performing brilliantly in the Turkish top-flight with Fenerbahce.

The ex-Liverpool powerhouse has made 29 appearances across all competitions for the Istanbul giants this season so there’s clearly no signs of the Slovak slowing down.
Getting him in at Celtic would also frustrate Rangers and let Gerrard realise just how tough it will be to beat the Bhoys next season.
If Rangers can’t beat them in the transfer market, then what chance do they have on the pitch?
There could be some major changes in Glasgow over the coming weeks or months, and Celtic should be hoping that Skrtel joining them over Gerrard is one of those changes.
