PL duo reportedly eye up Celtic senior player, vital that Rodgers must keep him (not Dembele or Tierney)
While all the talk has been about Moussa Dembele departing Celtic in January, an intriguing story has emerged about another forward who plays in the East End of Glasgow.
Football consultant Ian McGarry, speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, revealed that two English Premier League relegation strugglers, Crystal Palace and West Brom, are interested in signing Leigh Griffiths this month.
The news is slightly surprising as senior player Griffiths hasn’t been a regular for the Bhoys this season, sometimes at times he’s been the third striker of three behind Dembele and Odsonne Edouard.
However, despite Griffiths not being a first-team regular at times, under no circumstances should the Bhoys think about selling the 27-year-old.
It seems likely that Dembele will leave the Bhoys if not in January then in the summer and Edouard is on-loan from PSG and there’s no guarantee that he will still be in Glasgow next season.
With that in mind, selling a natural goalscorer like Griffiths would be sheer folly, particularly with the Champions League qualifiers starting in July.
Griffiths has the ability to score up to 40 goals in a season – he did this in 2015-16 – and even though he might not be as classy a striker as Dembele he still has the ability to score goals in big games, like he did against Anderlecht and Rangers earlier this season.
It is vital that Griffiths – who is arguably the most consistent striker at the club – stays with the Hoops next season.
