Celtic must up the ante in the chase for Hibernian midfielder John McGinn, after it emerged that Derby County have also entered the race for the highly rated player’s signature, along with Birmingham City.
With Stuart Armstrong set to join Southampton for a reported fee in Sky Sports in excess of £6million, the Hibbies ace was always considered as the player who would replace the Saints bound star.
But now that The Sun has revealed that Rams’ new manager Frank Lampard is targeting the Scottish international, Brendan Rodgers and co. cannot afford to waste any more time – they need to finally tie up a deal for the 23-year-old.
Former England international, Lampard, is bound to want to make his presence known on the transfer market as well as in the Championship next season, which means he will undoubtedly be going out all guns blazing in the hope that he can tie up a number of cut-price deals, McGinn being one of those.
But Rodgers must not allow the Hibernian midfielder the opportunity to even consider a move to the Championship, by now moving in swiftly to complete a deal for the player that they have been linked with for some time and finally signing the man who can replace Armstrong in terms of goals, assists, and fighting spirit in the centre of the park.
