Sevilla are reportedly closing in on the signing of Chelsea centre-forward Michy Batshuayi on loan for a fee of of around £1.3million.
Spanish news outlet Estadio Deportivo claims that he is edging towards a move to the European giants – but Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers should hijack their transfer plans to make an ambitious swoop to bring him to Glasgow for the rest of the season.
Whilst Batshuayi may be on the outs for the moment in the Premier League, he is precisely the sort of player that the Bhoys need for their Europa League campaign.
He has the experience of playing in big matches already and the 24-year-old will be playing with a point to prove to not only Chelsea but to Belgian national team coach Roberto Martinez, as he tries to get into the Belgium squad for the World Cup.
Playing in Scotland helped Dedryck Boyata get back into the Belgium squad, so it wouldn’t affect Batshuayi’s chances.
Another aspect that could get the loan deal done for is that Brendan Rodgers previously worked for Chelsea for many years so they will be well aware of the type of job that he could do with one of their players.
Would the player be a long-term replacement for Moussa Dembele? No, but he would add competition to the Hoops’ forward line and would be asset to have for the second-half of the season.
