Celtic news: Chris Sutton’s Sebastian Tounekti claim shows exactly why sale is the best option
Chris Sutton has blasted Sebastian Tounekti’s attacking decision-making amid Celtic’s ongoing woes up front.
The winger has struggled for the Hoops since signing in the summer, and has only picked up three goal contributions in the Scottish Premiership so far.
This has resulted in his game time being limited under Martin O’Neill in recent weeks as the manager looks to solve their attacking issues.
Now, Sutton has blasted his inability to link up with his fellow attackers as well as his lack of threat to the opposition full-backs.
Below, Football Insider has examined why this could bring about a dramatic end to Tounekti’s Celtic career.

Celtic’s transfer strategy has been poor in recent years, and the signing of Tounekti appears to be another failure.
Writing in the Daily Record on 4 April, Sutton took aim at the 23-year-old, stating: “I’ve no problem with Sebastian Tounekti, for example, driving to the line as it sets the full-back up for him to come inside and get shots off.
| Sebastian Tounekti’s Scottish Premiership stats this season | Per 90 minutes |
| Goals | 0.14 |
| xG | 0.17 |
| Shots | 2.29 |
| Assists | 0.07 |
| Chances created | 2.29 |
| Passing accuracy | 83.1% |
“That’s fine as he doesn’t want to be predictable, but when do you see him or Hyun-jun Yang on a regular basis link up with the striker pass and follow, or even have that threat with their full backs?”
This is the fundamental problem with Tounekti – he simply does not look like he is part of a cohesive front line.
As a result, this has caused his lack of goal contributions to date, which has led him to become a passenger in many of Celtic’s matches.
This is something that three managers have now failed to fix, and it is becoming clear that Tounekti is simply not good enough at the Hoops.
How do Celtic plan on solving their attacking woes?
Football Insider has revealed that Celtic are chasing Kasper Hogh ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Bodo/Glimt striker has seen his reputation in the footballing world explode this season after his club’s run in the Champions League.
Hogh was a key cog in this system and scored five goals in the competition before they were knocked out by Sporting CP.

Outside of Europe, Hogh also impressed, and netted 17 goals in 28 appearances in the Eliteserien 2025 campaign, while also picking up five assists.
However, it remains to be seen if Celtic are able to win the race for the attacker, with the 25-year-old wanted by a host of clubs across Europe, with Champions League football set to be a big factor in any departure.
