Celtic news: Glasgow pundit shares ‘massive’ Callum McGregor claim after deal agreed
Callum McGregor will overtake Scott Brown’s Celtic trophy record.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers defender Alan Hutton is in no doubt that McGregor will finish his career at Parkhead after signing a contract extension.
On Monday (10 July), the Hoops confirmed that the 30-year-old has penned a new five-year deal that keeps him at the club until 2028.
The captain took over from former skipper Scott Brown following his departure from the club in 2021.
Brown won 22 trophies during his 14-year spell with the Glasgow giants and McGregor has already closed in on that haul following the club’s treble this season.
The Scotland international has won 20 trophies with the Celts and could equal Brown’s record, and even surpass it, next season.
Hutton is not surprised McGregor penned a new deal at Parkhead.
“I had no doubt in my mind that he would probably see out his career at Celtic,” he told Football Insider.
“I think he has been outstanding for the football club and Scotland as well.
“The amount of trophies he has won, there is a massive chance he can now go and overtake Scott Brown and what he has achieved which is quite incredible.

“Sometimes this does happen, he is the captain and has been there since day one but he is not the kind of guy to complain about wages.
“I think it was just a case of signing him long-term and at the end of the day I think he deserves it, that is the big thing.“
