Celtic news: Hutton hails Postecoglou after Giakoumakis reveal

Alan Hutton has praised Ange Postecoglou for keeping his distance from his Celtic players.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers defender said that from his experience managers do not need to have a close relationship with their players.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer (8 January), about the future of Giorgos Giakoumakis, the Aussie boss recalled that in his first year of coaching his favourite player left him after just two games.

The Hoops manager added that he has “never fallen in love” with his players.

According to Greek outlet SDNA, as relayed by the Daily Record (9 January), there are up to five teams in the mix for the striker, including Serie A side UC Sampdoria and Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds.

When asked if it’s a good thing for the manager to keep their distance from, Hutton told Football Insider: “I do not think it is a bad thing.

“The manager is there to manage, he picks the team, normally he has a good coach behind him that takes large parts of the training and he oversees everything.

“I do not think you have to have a relationship with the players where you are going out for meals and speaking to them every minute of every day.

“I do not think you have to have that. I have had a lot of managers in my time where you kind of barely see them. Actually you do not want to go and see them because it means there is a problem.

It is not a big deal.”
