Celtic news: Hutton unimpressed by what he’s seen of Adam Idah and Kyogo Furuhashi

Celtic strikers Adam Idah and Kyogo Furuhashi have not been convincing in recent weeks.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton was adamant that one of the pair must “grab games by both hands” to secure a permanent spot in the starting line-up.

Kyogo has underwhelmed in recent weeks having scored just one goal in his last eight league outings, while Idah has managed five goals and one assist in his first six games.

However, both were poor in Celtic’s recent 2-0 defeat to Hearts, and fans have questioned who should be Rodgers’ first-choice.

Hutton claimed that neither have done enough to be top-choice and suggested Rodgers will continue playing both until one “grasps their opportunity”.

“If Rodgers is going to pick a starting striker, they need to be putting in top performances,” he told Football Insider.

“At this moment in time, I don’t see it that from either Idah or Kyogo.

“Idah has come in and scored goals, but he needs to be given that supply of balls into the box.

“If they’re not doing that, then it’s always going to be difficult.

“He’s different to Kyogo in that he can hold it up – Kyogo is not that type of player.

“You need someone to go and grab games by both hands and I’m not seeing it right now.

Kyogo

“Kyogo is the guy for the big games and I think Rodgers will revert back to that if it’s a Rangers game or something like that.

“Time will tell, but it’s really down to the players – they need to grasp their opportunities.”
