Celtic news: McAvennie struck by ‘big thing’ Reo Hatate kept doing v Rangers

Frank McAvennie insists Reo Hatate could not have asked for a better start to his Celtic career.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, was blown away by what he saw from the midfielder against Rangers.

Hatate, 24, scored Celtic’s first two goals in a 3-0 win over their Old Firm rivals on Wednesday (2 February).

After the game, Ange Postecgolou was quoted by Daily Record as saying Hatate “isn’t even fit yet”.

McAvennie can’t wait to see how well the midfielder plays once he reaches full fitness.

“Hatate was absolutely magnificent,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Postecoglou knows how to pick them, what an impact he’s had.

“He scored a screamer at Hearts last week and then he comes and scores two belters in an Old Firm.

“He’s already a hero. He was getting stuck into challenges last night as well.

“That’s a big thing for me. People were praising his goals and his passing but he was flying into tackles.

“That’s why you need form these players. The other thing is Postecoglou said he’s still not fully fit.

“Oh my god, imagine how good he will be when he’s up to speed. What a signing.

“You can’t ask for a better start to a Celtic career. I can’t wait to see how he does over the rest of the season because it looks like he can play a big role.”
