Celtic news: Pundit drops ‘huge’ Cameron Carter-Vickers claim after latest
Cameron Carter-Vickers is a “huge” miss for Celtic particularly ahead of the Old Firm.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers defender Alan Hutton said Hoops fans are “down” about the injury crisis at the club but insisted that the recruitment has been positive.
Brendan Rodgers confirmed (24 August) that Carter-Vickers is set to be sidelined for two months, alongside recent arrival and fellow centre-back partner Maik Nawrocki.
Both players will miss next weekend’s derby clash against Ibrox with Rodgers also missing centre-back Stephen Welsh with an injury.
Rodgers has Yuki Kobayashi, Liam Scales and new signing Gustaf Lagerbielke left available in central defence.
When asked if the Hoops boss will be worried about the upcoming games given the injury problems, Hutton told Football Insider: “It is amazing how sometimes this happens.
“You look at the start of the season and everything is all rosy then all of a sudden you are out one cup and everything is not going the way you planned and there are injuries.
“There is no getting away from the fact that Carter-Vickers is a huge miss, [Alistair] Johnston has been a big miss, [Carl] Starfelt and Jota leaving, there is a little bit of baggage and fans are a little bit down about it.

“They have recruited well so far it has just been unlucky with the injury side. When you look at the games that are just around the corner, they are huge.
“Rangers have already dropped points so they are under pressure to go and get something against Celtic. It is going to be a difficult period but Brendan Rodgers will have to look to the squad he has got and be able to deal with it.“
