Celtic news: Pundit hails Joe Hart 'transformation' after what he's seen at Parkhead

Alex McLeish has hailed Joe Hart for “adapting and transforming himself” after his successful move to Celtic.

The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 35-year-old is even better than he was during his trophy-laden spell at Man City.

Hart made two saves as Celtic all but confirmed a 52nd Scottish league title with a 4-1 win against Hearts on Saturday (7 May).

The England international, who is contracted until May 2024, has kept 25 clean sheets in 45 games across all competitions this term.

As quoted by the Daily Record (1 May), manager Ange Postecoglou hinted at a possible contract extension by confirming Hart will be first choice at Parkhead for “a lot longer”.

McLeish insisted the shot-stopper’s strength from crosses has been a particular highlight.

“Joe Hart was down on his luck before coming to Rangers,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“Things didn’t work out at Man City and he was the second choice at Burnley and Tottenham.

“But he’s adapted and transformed himself since coming to Scotland.

“Goalkeepers, if they’re still agile and mobile enough, are perhaps even better when they reach these kinds of ages (35) – because they’ve got all the knowledge and all the answers.

“Joe has been very strong in the box. That’s been a real strength, claiming these high balls and such. He’s been a really great signing.”

As revealed by Football Insider (30 April), Celtic are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer as they look to offload big-money flop Vasilis Barkas.

As also detailed this site last week (29 April), the Hoops are rivalling Wolves for Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Haikin.
