Celtic news: Pundit issues ‘really good’ update after golf course encounter with Hoops stars

Celtic are better positioned to win the Scottish Premiership after having a week’s break.

That’s according to former Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after he bumped into some of Celtic’s stars while playing golf.

This week, Ange Postecoglou’s side have gone without a midweek game for the first time since the resumption of the Premiership season.

The Hoops have faced a relentless schedule due to their participation in the Europa Conference League.

However, after getting knocked out of the competition, McAvennie claims Celtic now have an advantage over Rangers, who remain in the Europa League.

“I was up at Gleneagles and I saw a couple of the Celtic boys,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I spoke to them for a bit and it was good, they sounded good are looking and feeling amazing.

“They are winning but they have lost the sharpness they had a few weeks ago.

“That’s only natural with them playing so many games over a short period of time.

“This break could not have come at a better time, it’s going to help us out.

“Rangers aren’t getting a break, that’s what staying in Europe gets you.

“Celtic will qualify for the Champions League if they win the league so that’s the aim.

“Hopefully we can kick on now with a refreshed squad.”

They then return to League action against Ross County next Saturday (19 March).
