Celtic news: Pundit shocked by ‘furious’ Brendan Rodgers bust-up

Brendan Rodgers was “unfair” for lashing out at the Celtic kitman during their Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen on Saturday (20 April).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton suggested that the emotion of the fixture may have got the better of Rodgers, 51, but claimed that the pair would have ironed out any issues after full-time.

At halftime of extra time at Hampden Park, footage showed Rodgers storm over the kitman as he was speaking to Paulo Bernardo and dismiss him from the pitch with his anger clearly visible.

The Hoops secured their place in the final after a tense penalty shootout with the Dons, but Rodgers sparked major discussion among the Celtic fanbase with his controversial behaviour towards his staff.

Brendan Rodgers ’emotional’ as ‘furious’ Celtic footage emerges

Hutton criticised Rodgers as there would have been no way to know what the kitman was discussing with Bernardo, but admitted fear of a second cup upset this season may have motivated his fury.

“I think Rodgers reacted like that because there was a lot of emotion,” he told Football Insider.

“His team turned up and were taken all the way to penalties.

“At that moment in time, Rodgers wants to get his point across to his team.

“I saw the incident and it’s one of those where you feel that it’s unfair on the kitman as Rodgers wouldn’t have known exactly what was going on, but he looked furious.

“Football is full of emotion and you could see Brendan was ramped up.

“These things flair up and I’m sure it was spoken about afterwards and with no problems.”
