Rangers news: Campbell issues ‘crazy’ verdict on SPFL ‘problem’ after Jim White claim
Celtic and Rangers should not pay more than other clubs to introduce Video Assistant Refereeing into the Scottish Premiership, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested sponsorship could help Scottish football afford the technology.
According to the Daily Mail (21 February), the Old Firm are pushing hard for the introduction of VAR after a weekend of controversial refereeing.

However, other clubs are said to be worried about the cost of introducing such technology.
The projected cost for each club has risen from £60,000-per-annum to £100,000-per-annum but the SPFL is looking at ways to reduce that figure.
As quoted by the Glasgow Times (22 February), Jim White suggested on talkSPORT that the Old Firm bear the cost of the technology.
When asked if Celtic and Rangers should share more of the cost given their increased wealth, Campbell told Football Insider:
“Here’s the crazy thing, why would they pay more? Why should they pay more than Dundee United? It makes no sense.
“Yes, Rangers and Celtic will want VAR because as big clubs they may miss out on results because there is no VAR.
“The problem is the costs. It is not like the Premier League where they are awash with cash. The funds are a lot tighter at the smaller clubs.

“I think it is going to be very difficult for them to implement. It would have to be a big decision to get them to commit to that. I don’t know how much VAR costs but it will be a stretch for some of these clubs.
“Perhaps a sponsorship deal or something helps get it over the line.”
