Celtic news: Yuki Kobayashi has ‘learned a lesson’ after what expert spotted at Rangers
Frank McAvennie has claimed Celtic defender Yuki Kobayashi “learned a lesson” in his first game against Rangers on Saturday (13 May).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said the club need to sign another centre-back in the upcoming transfer window.
The 22-year-old made his fourth Premiership start for the Hoops and filled in for the injured Cameron Carter-Vickers at Ibrox on Saturday.
It was the Japanese defender’s first game against the Celts’ derby rivals and was dealt a sobering reality check in a 3-0 defeat to the Gers.
Ange Postecoglou also has 23-year-old Stephen Welsh as an option at centre-back but has opted for January signing Kobayashi as his third choice central defender.
But McAvennie insisted the Hoops need another option at the back.
“Kobayashi was all over the place at the weekend,” he told Football Insider.
“But he will learn from that if they are going to keep him.

“He will go one way or the other. He has got to take it in his stride, it was his first big game. Ange said he might have made mistakes with the team but I do not think he had any choice with Kobayashi.
“Is he better than Welsh at the moment? I do not know. But he came in and learned a lesson but now it is about how he uses it. If he takes it on board then it will not happen again.“
In other news, Celtic are set to bank £3m windfall with another £28m now guaranteed.
