Celtic next manager: Craig Bellamy odds tumble after Wales World Cup qualifying elimination

Celtic’s odds of appointing Craig Bellamy have increased, according to one bookmaker, after Wales failed to progress into the World Cup qualifier playoff final.

The manager is currently in charge of the Wales National team and oversaw a penalty defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the semi-finals of the World Cup playoffs.

It was a heartbreaking defeat, with the Welsh previously leading the match until Edin Dzeko’s late equaliser.

Now, one bookmaker has backed Celtic to appoint Bellamy after this heartbreak at 7/1, with Oddschecker confirming on 27 March that these odds have been slashed.

Below, Football Insider has analysed whether Bellamy Celtic appointment could be a success.

Craig Bellamy managerial career explained

Bellamy has had a short but somewhat successful first stint in the dugout since taking over the Wales national team in 2024.

Despite the nation losing the likes of Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey, they are still very competitive on the pitch, and were only two games away from qualifying for the World Cup in the summer.

Bellamy has only just started his managaerial career

In the 17 games he has been in charge of, he has only lost four, and has overseen plenty of impressive victories.

However, his lack of experience will be a big concern to those at Celtic Park.

Despite his early success, 17 matches are too few to judge a manager on, especially when the job at Celtic is as big as it is.

Therefore, his appointment would certainly be a massive risk if the Hoops do make an approach.

Who else is linked with the Celtic job?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Jens Berthel Askou is the frontrunner for the Celtic job this summer.

Now, this has been reflected in the bookies, with the Motherwell boss being 3/1 to take over.

Just in front of him is Robbie Keane, at 6/4, who has also heavily impressed early into his management career.

Roberto Martinez is yet to be ruled out at 7/1. However, his odds have now clearly tanked compared to previous months.

Scotland National team boss Steve Clarke also remains in the running at 8/1, with the manager looking to guide the Tartan Army to a successful World Cup in the summer.
