Celtic next manager: Odds slashed on favourite for job after Wilfried Nancy sack latest

Wilfried Nancy remains under heavy pressure at Celtic despite picking up his first win as Hoops boss on the weekend.

Nancy oversaw a dire start at the Old Firm club, losing his first four matches in charge, including a 3-1 defeat to St. Mirren in the Premier Sports Cup final.

This has seen calls for Celtic to sack Nancy less than a month into his reign as their chances of winning the Scottish Premiership title continued to slip away.

However, the pressure was eased on Sunday when he oversaw a 3-1 victory over Aberdeen to finally get a positive result at Glasgow.

Yet, speculation about a potential departure refuses to disappear, with Martin O’Neill heavily tipped to make a return to Celtic Park.

Martin O’Neill’s odds reduced for Celtic return

While the Frenchman did oversee a victory over Aberdeen, if Celtic do not beat Livingston on the weekend, Nancy is expected to be sacked.

As a result, plenty of bookies are still taking odds on who could take over at Celtic Park if the former Columbus Crew manager is given the boot.

One bookmaker has the current favourite as O’Neill, with the 73-year-old overseeing a highly successful interim spell before Nancy’s arrival.

However, since Thursday, these odds have been slashed.

O’Neill had previously been 2/1 to take over at Celtic next, and now these odds have fallen down to 6/4.

Second favourite is Kjetil Knutsen at 5/1, while Robbie Keane is also in the running at 11/2.

Can O’Neill lead Celtic back to glory?

Under O’Neill, Celtic were excellent. Despite a tricky start to the campaign under Brendan Rodgers, the former Aston Villa manager got their season back on track.

During his short spell back at Celtic Park, he oversaw seven wins in eight matches, with the Hoops closing in on Hearts at the summit.

While this work has been slightly undone by Nancy in recent weeks, if the 73-year-old returns, there is no doubt he would be a success.

However, for the time being, Nancy remains in charge, and he will be determined to prove his doubters wrong.
