Contrary to earlier suggestions from Turkey, Celtic have not made a bid for Besiktas centre-back Dusko Tosic, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun’s Celtic live transfer blog [03:07pm] reported in a major update that the Hoops do not even have any interest in the Serbia international, let alone have made an offer for him.
Reports from the Turkish news agency Akasm had previously claimed that the Hoops had bid around £2.5million for the 32-year-old defender but that Besiktas were holding out £3.5million.
It was understood that Tottenham and West Ham are also in the hunt to sign Tosic.
The Bhoys are in need of a new centre-back following the news that new signing Marvin Compper has been ruled out for up to a month with a calf injury.
Football Insider verdict
The 32-year-old Tosic does, on the face of it seem like an ideal replacement for Compper. They are the same age, and the Serbian international arguably has more experience. However, the chances of the Hoops paying over £2.5million for a player of that age seemed remote, after all they paid under £1million for Compper. Perhaps Brendan Rodgers isn’t planning to bring in another centre-back and will stick with Ajer and Boyata until Compper returns from his injury. In any case, it always seemed a bit unlikely that the Hoops would bid for Tosic and now it has proven to be the case.
