Celtic on course for biggest-ever windfall – Keith Wyness
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Celtic could bank their biggest-ever revenues after qualifying for the new-look Champions League.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed on-pitch performance will have the ability to transform fortunes for the Hoops and Scotland as a whole.
Celtic will play at least eight Champions League games in the 2024-25 season (up from six) after qualifying for the league phase as Scottish Premiership champions.
As per documents from Uefa, the Hoops will bank £15.8million as a “starting fee”.
£1.8million will be payable for any win, while Celtic will earn £593,000 for a draw.
Almost £723million will be distributed between the participating clubs depending on the size of their country’s TV market and club coefficient.
Clubs also earn a share of more than £200million depending on their final ranking in the 36-team league phase.
Celtic could bank historic revenue in 2024-25 campaign, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The extra home game will mean a lot.
“Not just for the matchday revenue, but for the sponsors as well.
“It’s important for Celtic to get the coefficient back up for themselves, they will need to do that this season.
“A lot of this new Champions League money will also come from results. Celtic only had one win in the group stage last year, they need more wins and to perform well.

“If they get out of the league phase, the prize money is even tastier this year. It will also help the coefficient, which is so important for Scotland to keep that automatic slot.
“There’s a big TV pool they will get a big share of, and it means a lot to Celtic.”
