Celtic player offered £100,000-a-week contract – report
By Alex Stevens
Chelsea have offered Moussa Dembele a sensational £100,000-a-week contract in a bid to sign him this summer, according to a report.
Scottish outlet Glasgow Live claim the Premier League leaders have made a major move to prise the prolific French striker from Parkhead.
It is said that Chelsea had a meeting with Dembele’s camp to discuss a possible transfer in the next window.
Glasgow Live claim Chelsea are willing to offer the 20-year-old a £65,000-a-week contract that will rise to £100,000-a-week over the course of the deal.
But Dembele, who joined Celtic on a free transfer last summer after running down his Fulham contract, is said to have rejected the deal.
The France Under-21 forward wants to be at a club where he is the first-choice striker rather than on the bench in the same way as £32million signing Michy Batshuayi, who joined Chelsea from Marseille last summer.
Dembele has scored 32 goals in 46 matches in all competitions for the runaway Scottish Premiership leaders and is one of the main contenders to win the player of the year in his adopted country.
His reported decision to turn down the Premier League champions elect is a major boost for a Brendan Rodgers as his team prepare to wrap up the SPFL title in a week’s time.
Celtic are unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership as they close in on sixth consecutive title in record time and are on course for a domestic treble after already winning the Scottish League Cup.
