Celtic player ratings v Ross County: Weak link is 4/10

By Dominic Toner

Football Insider rates the Celtic players after their 2-2 draw against Ross County in the Scottish Premiership.

Craig Gordon 6 – The goalkeeper was beaten by a fantastic headed goal by Michael Gardyne, but apart from that wasn’t called into action on many occasions.

Jozo Simunovic 7 – He is a powerful old school defender and demonstrated his strengths at the heart of Celtic’s backline. Also very comfortable in possession and one of the better players on the pitch.

Erik Sviatchenko 4 – The centre-back’s positioning wasn’t always convincing and he is the weak link in the side. He could find himself dropped for either Dedryck Boyata or Kolo Toure in the future. Gave away the penalty that allowed Ross County to score a late equaliser, but appeared to make no contact with the opposition’s player.

Kieran Tierney 8 – Opened the scoring with a brilliant long-range effort that arrowed perfectly into the bottom corner. He looked composed in the back three and the teenager is a brilliant prospect.

James Forrest 6 – Was a great attacking threat from the right wing-back position and threatened the Ross County defence frequently. Was taken off in the second-half as the Bhoys struggled in the second period.

Stuart Armstrong 6 – Worked hard in the centre of the park, but failed to create much going forward in a packed midfield. Did see his free-kick smash off the bar in the closing stages, though.

Scott Brown 5 – The Bhoys captain was steady in the midfield and used the ball very effectively to keep the team ticking over. However, he lost his head in the closing stages and was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Liam Boyce.

Callum McGregor 6 – Played in the left wing-back role and got forward well, but that certainly doesn’t look a comfortable position for him. He is a versatile midfielder and has been used in a variety of roles by Brendan Rodgers, but should return to the centre if he starts again.

Tom Rogic 6 – The attacking midfielder returned from injury to the starting line-up and showed some nice touches in possession, could have a 50/50 chance of starting in the cup against Rangers.

Scott Sinclair 7 – He kept getting in the pocket and answered several questions of the Ross County defence, but just lacked that bit of quality.

Moussa Dembele 6 – Lively all round play, but was just missing the threat in front of goal and was replaced by Leigh Griffiths to highlight the strength in Celtic’s squad.

Cristian Gamboa (for Rogic 63mins) 6

Leigh Griffiths (for Dembele 63mins) 6

Patrick Roberts (for Forrest 69mins) 7
