Celtic racing 'behind the scenes' to complete '£6m' Jota deal before rivals - Kenny

Paddy Kenny predicts Celtic are working behind the scenes to beat rival clubs to the permanent signing of Jota.

The former Leeds stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists there is “no way” other sides aren’t looking to steal the winger away from the Hoops.

When Jota, 22, joined Celtic on loan from Benfica, the club confirmed they have the option to make the deal permanent.

The in-form attacker was named as October’s Premiership player of the month after scoring two and assisting two goals in that month’s five games.

According to Portuguese journalist Almeida (20 November), the Hoops “will advance” with the permanent signing of Jota for a fee of approximately £6.3million.

Kenny expects Celtic are working to tie up a deal amid potential interest from rival clubs.

“You would like to think Celtic are working behind the scenes on getting that done,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It’s whether Celtic have got £6million to spend. Not in terms of them not having it, but do they need to go now when they can get him at the end of the season?

“He looks like a brilliant signing, he’s got a pretty good return in front of goal from a winger.

“The thing that worries me is other clubs coming in. There’s no way other clubs aren’t looking.

“If the money is there, you would think Celtic could just get it announced.

“The longer this goes on, the more worry there will be.”

Jota has scored and assisted seven goals since moving to Parkhead.

He scored again as Celtic lost 3-2 to Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League on Thursday.
