Celtic receive boost in Oliver Glasner manager chase after honest Steve Parish admission

Celtic are on the hunt for their next manager and have surprisingly been linked to Oliver Glasner.

The Crystal Palace boss is set to leave the club over the coming weeks upon the expiry of his contract.

On Wednesday, he guided the Eagles to their third major trophy in 13 months as they beat Rayo Vallecano to lift the Conference League.

This led to murmurs that Glasner could be tempted to stay at Selhurst Park as he continues to find success.

However, chairman Steve Parish has now doubled down and insisted that Glasner will leave Palace next month, in a big boost in Celtic’s managerial hunt.

Steve Parish: Oliver Glasner will leave Crystal Palace

Glasner has become a surprise contender for the Celtic job this week.

One bookmaker had ever reduced his odds down to 12/1, making him one of the favourites for the job.

Glasner has been excellent at Palace

This is despite the 51-year-old being linked with numerous high-profile jobs since his departure was announced at Selhurst Park, and his recent Conference League victory will have only raised his stock even more.

Yet, despite announcing his intended exit months ago, he is yet to confirm his next destination, while Palace have also not decided on a replacement.

Nevertheless, Parish has ended any talks of Glasner staying on, with the Daily Record on 29 May reporting that he said after Wednesday’s victory: “It’s incredible and I’m overjoyed for everybody. But Oliver’s not going to stay on. Listen, it’s a great ending.”

This is a big boost for Celtic if they intend on making an approach for the 51-year-old as they continue to search for Martin O’Neill’s successor.

Who else is linked to the Celtic job?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Robbie Keane is on Celtic’s list of managerial targets.

The Bhoys have added the 45-year-old to their shortlist of potential targets, but it is understood that he is not currently one of the leading contenders to take the reins at Parkhead.

This is despite the 45-year-old looking set to leave Ferencvaros this summer after missing out on the Hungarian League title.

Other candidates are ahead of Keane in the pecking order right now, but it remains to be seen who Celtic will opt to appoint this summer, with at in the dugout for O’Neill yet to be ruled completely out.
