Celtic star reveals the miss his family gave him a hard time over

By James Black

Celtic star Patrick Roberts have revealed his brother gave him pelters after missing a sitter against Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final in 2016.

The on-loan Manchester City youngster had Wes Foderingham’s goal at his mercy after reacting first to shot which rebounded off the post but screwed his effort wide of the post when it was easier to score.

The 20-year-old admitted his brother had given him a hard time over the miss – Rangers went on to win the match on penalties.

Roberts took advantage of some time-off over the international break to head home to Hounslow – and took in an amateur match involving his brother Adam – and revealed he got a small measure of revenge on his sibling.

“I went to London for a few days and watched my brother, Adam, play,” Roberts said, as quoted by the Daily Record website.

“He turns out for a team in Hounslow and also plays with his mates.

“My Dad and I were there and Adam missed a penalty.

“I took a video of him doing it and his mates were laughing.

“He’s had some stick, but he gave me pelters for my miss against Rangers at Hampden a couple of seasons back.”

Roberts is likely to start on Saturday when Celtic return to competitive action against Dundee after the international break.

With Bayern Munich next up for the Hoops, Rodgers will need a good performance against Neil McCann’s side to earn a place against the Germans at the Allianz Arena.

Roberts is now in his second loan spell with Celtic after originally spending 18 months in Glasgow.

After impressing Brendan Rodgers, the Hoops tried to sign the winger on a permanent deal however City boss Pep Guardiola wasn’t willing to allow Roberts to leave permanently.

Roberts eventuall signed a new season-long loan deal in August to return to Celtip Park.

The 20-year-old has made 66 appearances in total for the Hoops, scoring 18 times.

In other Celtic transfer news, the club are joint favourites to sign a left-footed midfield creator who has demolished the Hoops in the past.
