Celtic sale of Barkas to ‘go right down to the wire’ after Sheffield United update – Campbell
Kevin Campbell has claimed a Sheffield United move for Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas could go “right down to the wire”.
The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the two sides may have to “compromise” on the transfer of the 27-year-old.
As reported by the Scottish Daily Mail (25 January, print edition p.79), Sheffield United have called off a move for Greek ‘keeper Barkas following a breakdown in negotiations with Celtic.

The report details that the Hoops were demanding a loan fee as well as full coverage of the shot-stopper’s £20,000-per-week wage.
The newspaper also claims Celtic asked for a £2.5million purchase option to be inserted into the deal – as well as a clause allowing the Bhoys to profit from any future sale.
Campbell hinted that the Greek goalkeeper could yet seal a move to Bramall Lane – telling Blades fans to “watch this space”.
“A decision is going to have to be made,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“Sheffield United and Celtic are going to have to come to a compromise because at the moment Celtic are looking to lighten the load on a signing that hasn’t worked out.
“Watch this space, because that deal could go right down to the wire.”
Barkas was signed by former Celtic boss Neil Lennon for a reported £4.5million in July 2020.
