Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is being eyed up for a return to Premier League giants Chelsea, according to a report.
The Daily Express are reporting that Rodgers is on the club’s shortlist to replace Antonio Conte, who is expected to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, after a disappointing season which is set to see them miss out on Champions League qualification.
However, what will slightly sooth the nerves of Hoops fans is that the report claims that Rodgers is towards the bottom of the shortlist, which also includes the likes of former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique, Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri and Juventus manager Max Allegri.
Rodgers has previously worked at Chelsea as head of youth development and reserve manager more than a decade ago.
Football Insider verdict
It makes sense for Rodgers to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as he has worked at Chelsea before, albeit more than ten years ago. However, it seems unlikely that fans of the reigning Premier League champions will be enthused about Rodgers moving to London, as they would no doubt prefer the likes of Enrique or Sarri, who are much more exciting names than a man who works in Scottish football. Clubs in England will be aware of Rodgers’ success in Scotland but his results in Europe have not been good enough yet to land him a job in England. The Hoops fans need not worry about Rodgers moving to England just yet – at least not to Chelsea.
