Celtic poised to land defender mega transfer windfall - report
By Emma Sanders
Celtic look set to receive a windfall of at least £2.5million if Virgil van Dijk is sold by Southampton this season, according to a report.
The centre-back has been linked with a number of clubs in the Premier League but Celtic could receive the large sum of money due to terms in his contract regarding a sell-on clause.
The Daily Record claim Celtic are in line to receive at least 10 per cent of the £25 million buy-out-clause if Van Dijk is sold by Southampton even though he left Parkhead 15 months ago.
Van Dijk joined the Saints in September 2015 for £13 million after making 76 league appearances for Celtic but has since gone on to become one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
The 25-year-old signed a new deal in May 2016 which extends his stay at St Mary’s for another six years but recent form has sparked interest from a number of top English clubs.

Among those, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Everton are all in the running to sign the defender and he is expected to be sold for up to his release fee given his form.
So far this season, Van Dijk has made 20 appearances for Southampton and the Dutchman has helped his side keep eight clean sheets, including an impressive goalless draw against Liverpool last month.
