Charly Musonda is set to leave Chelsea on loan during the January transfer window and Celtic have been put on “red alert” after trying to sign him in the summer, according to reports.
The Daily Mirror claims that Bournemouth are favourites to sign Belgian attacker after he was made available to leave Stamford Bridge, leading to the the Daily Record to report that the Hoops are now keeping close tabs on his situation.
It is understood that the 21-year-old is being allowed to exit Premier League Chelsea on a temporary deal after they completed the signing of Ross Barkley from Everton.
Celtic were said to have had keen interest in Musonda during the summer and were preparing a swoop for him before the Champions League last-16 club decided that they wanted him to stay put.
Musonda has spent the last two seasons on loan at Real Betis as Chelsea aim to get the player ready for first-team football.
Football Insider verdict
Musonda is obviously a player that Brendan Rodgers likes, as the Hoops have been linked with him at various stages since the summer. If Celtic decide to go back in for the player, they wouldn’t be able to match the wages that Musonda would get at Bournemouth. Another factor that would need to be taken into consideration is where would the player fit in the Hoops team, perhaps as he’s an attacking midfielder he would be taking the place of Tom Rogic, as he would find it difficult to dislodge the likes of James Forest or Scott Sinclair on the wings.
In other Celtic news, the Bhoys have joined the hunt to sign this £25m-rated Premier League defender.
