‘Celtic set sights on another £10m windfall’ after confirmed news

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has revealed Celtic will bank another £10million windfall if they can secure unlikely progression to the Champions League last 16.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers will have his eye on “some really quality additions” if they can progress.

Celtic will play in the Champions League knockout play-off round against Real Madrid or Bayern Munich next month after finishing 21st in the league phase.

The Glasgow giants have already raked in £26.2million in prize money this season and will bank a further £9.3million if they beat Real or Bayern.

That money could help Rodgers add to his squad in the final days of this window, with Football Insider revealing on Tuesday (28 January) that Celtic are keen to sign a like-for-like Kyogo Furuhashi replacement before the 3 February deadline.

Winger Jota has already re-signed at Parkhead after 18 months away with Al-Ittihad and Rennes.

Rodgers eyes Celtic ‘rebuild’ with another £10m up for grabs

Wyness claimed Celtic will also be setting their sights on a “rebuild” this summer if they can bring in further money from their Champions League adventure.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “This is great for Celtic.

“If they get through to the last 16, it could be another £10million.

“It’s significant and they’re collecting the money nicely.

“If they can get through this next round, which is unlikely, it’ll be a big number.

“That money will let them rebuild, as well as keep some money in the bank. We’d be talking about some really quality additions for Brendan Rodgers if they can pull it off.”
