Celtic set sights on instant Kyogo replacement after deal agreed – sources

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to sign a like-for-like Kyogo Furuhashi replacement before the 3 February deadline, sources have told Football Insider.

The Hoops have confirmed the departure of the 30-year-old “icon” to Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais.

Furuhashi’s exit has come as a surprise but Celtic received an offer too good to turn down after the Japan international expressed his desire to quit.

Jota has arrived at Parkhead in a separate move, but it is believed the Hoops are keen to add another forward.

In the meantime, Daizen Maeda could move into a central role after the Portuguese winger returned to the club.

Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden has been identified as the top striker target for Rodgers’ side after his impressive form in Denmark.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (25 January) that the 22-year-old is expected to cost around £10million this month as his club are reluctant to see him leave mid-season.

Kvistgaarden has hit 14 goals and notched five assists in 22 games across all competitions for Brondby so far this term.

Celtic also have Adam Idah on the books and the Republic of Ireland international could become a regular starter after Kyogo’s exit.

Nicolas Kuhn is the top scorer for Rodgers’ side this term with 16 goals, followed by Maeda’s contribution of 15 strikes.

The Hoops are well placed to win the domestic treble this term and will also play knockout stage football in the Champions League.
