Kieran Maguire shares verdict as Celtic reportedly set to make 'glamorous' announcement
Pre-season friendlies against “glamorous” opposition will be good for both the bank balance and for the overall mood at Celtic.
That is according to finance guru and Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively after the Daily Record reported that Celtic are set to announce an exhibition match against West Ham.
The clash at Celtic Park is understood to be slated for Saturday, 24 July.
Depending on the scheduling of other friendlies, it could be Celtic supporters’ first chance to see their team in the flesh in 15 months.
Maguire pointed out that as well as providing morale and fitness-boosting opportunities, pre-season fixtures can be commercially lucrative.
He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “Celtic do need a reset. They’ve had a pretty tough 12 months.

“Friendlies are a chance to see the new kit and ideally the new signings. In terms of income, they will probably do big numbers at the superstore.
“When the new manager comes in, it’s a chance for him to stamp his authority in terms of his style and culture.
“You can’t read too much into these things because they are part of an overall gearing up to the start of the season.
“But it will sell out, almost inevitably given the passionate nature of the Celtic fanbase. So that will provide a welcome boost in terms of matchday income.
“West Ham are a pretty glamorous opposition. So it could be a good day out for all concerned.”
Celtic finished their season with a 0-0 draw against Hibs on Saturday.
Supporters will be hoping to see a new manager installed by the time pre-season kicks off, with Eddie Howe the overwhelming favourite.
