Celtic set to sign striker after Giorgos Giakoumakis update – ‘I have heard,’ says expert

Frank McAvennie has suggested Celtic are signing another striker after what he’s heard.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops hitman said the Celts are set to bring in another goalscorer in upcoming windows.

According to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph (2 December), talks for an improved deal for Giorgos Giakoumakis have stalled in the last few weeks.

The forward, 27, is believed to be happy at Parkhead and both the club and the player are keen to agree a new deal.

The Greece international’s current contract runs until 2026 but the Hoops are keen to agree an improved contract.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will not have any European football in the new year after finishing bottom of their Champions League group.

The Green and Whites had 82 attempts on goal over the course of six games and managed to convert just four of those.

McAvennie insisted competition will be good for Giakoumakis and strike partner Kyogo Furuhashi.

I have heard he [Postecoglou] has got another striker coming in,” he told Football Insider.

I do not know who it will be. But I have said it before, if you do not score in the Champions League, it is the same as any other players on the pitch, if you do not do your job then you will be replaced.

He will bring somebody in and that will help Kyogo and Giakoumakis. They know they can’t miss chances now.

Everyone misses chances but the ones those two were missing in Europe were beyond a joke. He has got a blank canvas because who he has brought in already has been nothing short of class.
