Celtic should be thrilled by £10m Hearts news – Keith Wyness
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Celtic should be pleased – not threatened – by potential investment from Tony Bloom at Hearts.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the takeover move could birth a “very competitive league” which will have benefits in Europe and with TV money.
It has been widely reported that Brighton owner Bloom is in talks over a £10million investment in Hearts.
The businessman, who is planning to bring his Starlizard sport analysis company in at Tynecastle, will become a minority stakeholder at the Edinburgh club if successful.
Hearts finished third in the Scottish Premiership last term but were 25 points behind eventual champions Celtic.
Hibernian have also had recent investment from Bournemouth owner Bill Foley, who has taken a 25% stake at Easter Road.
Hearts investment will have benefits for Celtic, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “All of a sudden, we could have a really competitive Scottish league with six, seven or even eight sides with the right support.
“It would be great for Scottish football.
“We could have a very competitive league and then hopefully the Scottish sides would perform better in Europe.
“That’s a big benefit.
“This is something which should’ve happened many years ago. I lobbied for this about 20 years ago.
“Scotland won’t get to Premier League levels, but the TV money could get to Championship levels.

“I’ve always felt the Scottish Premiership should focus more on youth and becoming a more exciting league for that reason.
“If that’s the way it works out, it could become a very interesting showcase and a very worthy watch.”
