Celtic to sign up 25-year-old by Saturday - BBC

Stuart Armstrong is ready to sign a new deal with Celtic by Saturday following a breakthrough in talks yesterday (Wednesday), according to a report.
BBC Sport claim on their website that the attacking midfielder, 25, is set to end the long-running contract stalemate that has cast a cloud over his early season form.
It is said that negotiations have taken place in the past 24 hours to smooth out a number of sticking points and Armstrong is in line to pen a long-term deal before the Hoop’s Scottish Premiership clash against Kilmarnock on Saturday.
Manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that Armstrong’s form has been affected by the uncertainty over his future.
He was a key member of the team last season, when his 17 goals were integral to the team’s domestic clean sweep.

But he has slipped down the pecking order in the new campaign and was left on the bench for Wednesday’s 5-0 Champions League demolition of FC Astana.
Armstrong replaced James Forrest in the 82nd minute, by which team Celtic were already 4-0 ahead in the play off first-leg clash.
Football Insider verdict
Armstrong is too good to lose. The playmaker who created and scored for fun last season has been replaced by an imposter who has sleptwalked through the start of Celtic’s treble defence and Champions League campaign. But, now that contractual issues appear to have been settled, Rodgers can sleep easily and look forward to welcoming back his matchwinner. Celtic need a top performer who can deliver the goods week in, week out, and that is more important than securing a touted £6million fee. The Scottish giants may have had to cede ground on a few issues but the Scot is worth it.
