Celtic six-figure defender deal on the cards for Jan, player jets into Glasgow for talks - report
Celtic are closing in on making RB Leipzig defender Marvin Compper their first signing of the January transfer window, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claims that Compper, 32, jetted into Glasgow for talks and had a VIP tour of Parkhead on Thursday as Brendan Rodgers aims to add another centre-back to his Hoops squad.
It is understood that Celtic could pay a six-figure fee worth £900,000 for the one-time Germany international, who has been cast to the fringes of the RB Leipzig squad this season.
The ex-Fiorentina centre-back has made just three appearances across all competitions for the German side this season, including one in the Champions League against Besiktas earlier this month, which means that should he sign for Celtic, then he would be unable to be named in their Europa League squad.
Dedryck Boyata, Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko have all had their injury woes this term, leaving Rodgers to name players out of position at centre-back.

Celtic 100 per cent need another centre-back added to their squad in January, but Compper doesn’t appear like he is someone who is any better than what is already on offer at Parkhead. Rodgers has the chance to really improve his squad ahead of the Europa League knock-out rounds but instead it just seems that the German centre-back is being brought in just to be a squad player. It’s a very cheap deal and it may be that the Hoops are short of the required funds to make a significant addition to the first-team. There has to be better options out there for Rodgers but it seems that he is set on Compper already.
