Leigh Griffiths delivers message to Celtic fans after they slam his display v Hibs

By James Black

Celtic star Leigh Griffiths has hit back at fans who criticised his performance against Hibs in the Scottish League Cup semi-final.

Griffiths played 60 minutes of the 4-2 win over Neil Lennon’s side but struggled to get involved as the Hoops extended their unbeaten domestic run to 60 games.

The striker wrote, “Another game at Hampden, another win” on Twitter prompting a backlash from fans who thought the Scotland star had performed poorly.

Some of the comments from Celtic fans suggested his support for Celtic’s opponents meant he didn’t try as hard as he would against other sides.

As the negative comments continued, Griffiths followed up his original comment with  a second Tweet, saying: “Fans are a bit over the top at times, people are allowed an off game from time to time.”

Griffiths has scored seven times in eighteen appearances so far for Celtic although the former Hibs striker has struggled in recent weeks as Celtic’s hectic schedule looks to be taking its toll.

The Parkhead mainstay has also been a regular in Gordon Strachan’s Scotland side in recent months and will be feeling the effects of travelling across the continent to represent club and country.

The Glasgow giants face a trip to Aberdeen on Wednesday to face Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen with both sides level on points in the Scottish Premiership.

After his double against Hibs at Hampden, Moussa Dembele could come into the starting XI at Griffith’s expense as Brendan Rodgers looks to open up a three-point gap over the Dons.

In other Celtic news, Chris Sutton has issued a stern warning to the Hoops about their upcoming fixtures.
