Celtic news: Medical expert fears Kyogo Furhashi may have suffered another setback in crushing blow

It is a possibility that Kyogo Furhashi may have suffered another setback on his road to recovery at Celtic.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Kyogo’s only outing since suffering a hamstring injury in early December was a 15-minute appearance in the 3-1 Boxing Day win over St Johnstone.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun last Friday (25 February), Ange Postecoglou claimed the 27-year-old striker is “nowhere near” a return.

Dinnery fears that the Australian manager’s “backtracking” on earlier more optimistic updates may indicate Kyogo has suffered a second setback.

“The club are suggesting it’s likely to be after the international break,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“The Japan manager is hopeful that he might be able to play some part in the upcoming World Cup qualifying games.

“But he’d be getting a player who has played very little football and won’t be that sharp.

“But if he is in and around that squad, that might work for Celtic. It is an opportunity for him to get a few minutes in his legs.

“But with these types of injuries, there are no guarantees. They have high recurrence rates, particularly when someone has been out long-term.

“Postecoglou has almost backtracked on his initial comments where he said he was nearing a return.

“Has he suffered a setback? Is there another problem? It’s possible. Or is it the same issue niggling away?

“It’s not until you’re reintegrated into the squad that they’ll know the full picture.”

Kyogo remains the Hoops’ top scorer with 16 goals in 25 appearances this term.

Postecoglou’s side beat St Mirren 2-0 last night (2 March) to maintain their three-point lead atop the Scottish Premiership.
