Scott Sinclair has aimed a sly dig at his former club Aston Villa by stating that he has got his “happiness” back at Celtic.

The 28-year-old made a £5million move last summer from Villa Park to Parkhead after the Midlands club were relegated to the second tier of English football.

It was the first time in nearly three decades that Villa had suffered relegation, with Sinclair being part of the group that went down with only 17 points to their name.

Since his move up north, he is on the verge of winning the domestic treble under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers.

Sinclair’s performances this season have seen him win the Scottish Player of the Year award as he was clearly delighted that he made the move to Celtic.

“The main thing for me coming up here was the get the happiness back in my football under a manager who gives me the belief and passion to go out there are enjoy my football,” Sinclair told talkSPORT.

“The challenge was because I had to get that happiness back in football. When I went to [Manchester] City, I didn’t play for a couple of years, and then I went to [Aston] Villa and got relegated.

“I was sort of at a crossroads in my career, where I could have stayed back in England, and had a nice cosy life and stayed in my life and just enjoyed [life].”

During his time at Villa, Sinclair played 27 Premier League matches for a team that recorded three wins under three different managers.

Both of his goals came during one match against Sunderland in August as he struggled for form and consistency throughout the campaign.

Nonetheless, he has since rediscovered his form, scoring 21 goals during his 32 Scottish Premiership matches and supplying eight assists.

The Celtic star lifted the Scottish Cup with the Bhoys in November which was then followed by the Premiership title in April.

Rodgers team are unbeaten on the domestic scene, at this moment in time and they are looking to add the Scottish League Cup to their cabinet when they play Aberdeen at the end of this month.
