Frank McAvennie: Celtic superstar will play for Barcelona

By Matt Farr

Former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie believes Moussa Dembele has the potential to play for Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Hoops goalscorer has drawn the plaudits this season, and his 19 goals from 36 appearances in all competitions has warranted the attention of several Premier League clubs.

West Ham are believed to be interested in signing the 20-year-old, with the Mirror claiming that the Hammers had made a £20 million offer.

However, after signing him just six months ago, Celtic do not want to let him leave the club this month.

McAvennie, who enjoyed multiple spells at both West Ham and Celtic, insists the Hoops are right not to want to sell Dembele, but believes that he has the talent to play for the likes of Real Madrid one day.

He told the Scottish Sun: “Moussa is a great prospect, and Celtic can afford to hold out for more than £20million for him.

“He’s 20 and he’s already got everything. I truly believe he will play for Real Madrid or Barcelona one day – he will be a huge star.

“Dembele is a quality player now and is only going to get better. He is destined to be a world-class star.”

Joining from Fulham on a free transfer in the summer, the France U-21 international became Brendan Rodgers’ very first summer signing at Celtic Park.

He has done wonders for Rodgers’ side, helping them establish an almost unassailable 19-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

The youngster is thriving in his regular first-team role, having also experienced the Champions League during the first-half of the campaign.

The Hoops are currently unbeaten in domestic competitions since the start of the season, and are currently on a winter training camp in Dubai.

In other Celtic news, assistant coach Chris Davies has had his say on the club’s transfers, talks exits and Dembele.
