Celtic surely have clear route to sign ‘exceptional’ striker after what manager has just said

Celtic may have just been given a huge boost in their bid to add to their attacking options before Monday’s transfer deadline.

The Bhoys are keen to add further firepower to their squad for the three-horse Premiership title race, as they aim to claw back the six-point gap to Hearts at the top of the table.

Football Insider revealed at the start of January that Celtic were desperate to add another striker to their group ahead of the second half of the season, and that remains the case after the arrival of Tomas Cvancara.

Benjamin Nygren is the only player to have broken into double figures for league goals for Martin O’Neill’s side so far this season, and they are in serious need of further options at the top of the pitch.

Norwich manager hints at Kasper Hogh failure

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Celtic had made contact for Kasper Hogh, as they prepared to battle Norwich City for the signature of the Bodo/Glimt striker.

The 25-year-old scored 17 goals from 28 games in the Eliteserien last season, and he is still adding to his yearly tally in the Champions League.

His Bodo/Glimt teammate Ulrik Saltnes previously hailed him as an “exceptional teammate and an exceptional trainer,” according to VG, and Celtic now have him in their sights before the deadline.

The Bhoys had been set for a fierce battle with Norwich to secure the frontman’s services, but the Canaries may have just pulled out of the move.

Their manager Philippe Clement recently suggested that his team’s final business would be about “what is possible in the transfer market for this moment, for the prices that the club can pay,” according to the Daily Record.

That suggests that the English outfit may feel that they do not have the funds to land Hogh in the coming days, which potentially leaves a clear route for Celtic to advance and strike a deal.

Kasper Hogh deal would spell the end for Johnny Kenny at Celtic

Johnny Kenny has come under fire at Celtic this season, as his performances have often left a lot to be desired in the eyes of the fanbase.

The 22-year-old has already fallen down the pecking order since O’Neill’s return to Celtic Park, as he hasn’t started a game since the home defeat to Rangers in Wilfried Nancy’s final game in charge.

Cvancara and Daizen Maeda are both ahead of Kenny in the striker reckoning, and a late move for Hogh would force him even further down the pecking order and effectively end his time with the club.

The former Shamrock Rovers man is a developing young player who needs regular gametime in order to reach his potential, and he simply wouldn’t get that if another frontman came through the door in the coming days.

Kenny has often frustrated with his lack of clinical finishing this term, but Celtic fans may have almost seen the last of him if the club can get the Hogh deal over the line.
