Celtic table excellent offer to seal playmaker deal - report

By Harry Sykes

Celtic have tabled an “excellent” offer to Stuart Armstrong and the ball is now in the player’s court as to whether he signs, according to a report.

The Daily Record claim the Scottish champions have done all they can to persuade the playmaker, 25, to commit to a new deal.

It is said that the matter is now down to Armstrong and his representatives agreeing the generous terms on offer and putting pen to paper.

The Record suggest Celtic are unwilling to increase what is already a lucrative package for the Scotland international, who is out of contract next summer.

English clubs such as Southampton and Brighton are weighing up moves to sign Armstrong but Celtic have not yet received a formal bid for one of their outstanding players of their remarkable treble-winning campaign.

Rodgers admitted at the weekend that Armstrong and his performances have been affected by the impasse and he wants the matter concluded as quickly as possible.

The former Dundee United player has made seven appearances for the Hoops this season but was left on the bench for their opening two league fixtures against Hearts and Partick Thistle.

Since joining Celtic in January 2015, Armstrong has scored 25 goals and supplied 19 assists from 110 matches in all competitions.

In other Celtic transfer news, Football Insider has revealed the Hoops are in the hunt to sign a dazzling attacking midfielder as late window interest to reach fever pitch.
