Celtic takeover: Keith Wyness reacts as Snoop Dogg declares interest
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed potential Snoop Dogg investment “wouldn’t do much” for Celtic.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Hoops are not comparable to Wrexham’s rags to riches story as they already have a “healthy bank balance”.
According to the Daily Record (27 October), rapper Snoop Dogg has revealed he is ready to invest in the Glasgow giants after watching actor Ryan Reynolds’ success at Wrexham.
He said: “Investing in a sports team has been something I have been looking at for a long time – if the chance came to invest in Celtic, I would be crazy not to take a look at it. I have watched so much soccer in Europe but I have never seen fans like the Celtic fans. There is something so special about them.”
Wrexham, Birmingham and Leeds are among the sides to receive investment from US celebrities in recent years as the phenomenon takes off in the UK.
Wyness has ‘questions’ about potential Snoop Dogg investment at Celtic
However, Wyness insisted he has “questions” about what Snoop Dogg could bring to the table at Parkhead.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “He’d be Hoop Dogg at Celtic.
“I don’t quite get this really. My local team, Tranmere Rovers, have got A$AP Rocky coming in as an investor – I can see the benefit in that.
“We’ve all seen the Ryan Reynolds situation at Wrexham and how exciting it can be.
“But I don’t think Celtic need the money. It’s not a Wrexham situation where you are rescuing a club from nowhere – there’s money in the bank.
“We’ve been talking about how they haven’t spent it.

“It’s not about making more money at Celtic. Snoop Dogg’s social media reach would be great, but that’s not really the same as Wrexham’s situation.
“I don’t think this would do much for Celtic. They’ve got a healthy bank balance right now, so I’d question what Snoop Dogg could actually do for the club.”
