Celtic thrilled by ‘huge coup’ as Simpson-Pusey deal agreed

Celtic have agreed to sign Man City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League giants have accepted a loan offer from the Scottish champions for the 19-year-old.

He has been given the green light to head to Celtic by City and put the finishing touches to the season-long deal.

It is believed not to include an obligation to buy.

Celtic regard the transfer as a “huge coup” after fending off interest from multiple clubs for the rising star, who has already made his Premier League debut for City.

Celtic beat Strasbourg to loan deal

On Monday (28 July), Football Insider exclusively revealed that both Celtic and Strasbourg had submitted offers for Simpson-Pusey.

However, the Glasgow giants have beaten the French side to a loan deal, with Brendan Rodgers bolstering his defence ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Simpson-Pusey joined the Man City academy at the age of eight and has come through the ranks at the club.

The England under-18 international made his senior debut for Pep Guardiola’s side last season, as well as impressing in the Premier League 2, picking up the division’s player of the season award.

Celtic face battle to keep star attacker

Meanwhile, Daizen Maeda has reportedly delayed talks over a new contract with Celtic amid growing interest in a big-money move this summer.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that the 27-year-old has had his head turned by Premier League interest.

While he is happy to remain at Parkhead and will not force a move away, he is reluctant to commit to a long-term contract at this stage of the window.

Instead, he plans to assess any offers that come in for him after Football Insider revealed Tottenham and Brentford are interested in signing Maeda.
