Celtic fans will pile pressure on the board after confirmed news – Keith Wyness

Former Everton and Aberdeen chief Keith Wyness has claimed that the Celtic board will be pressured by supporters to spend this summer after they broke a Scottish record for commercial revenue.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park and Pittodrie and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested that criticism at Parkhead will be “very loud” if they lose the league title to Rangers.

As revealed by Football Insider, Celtic defied expectations after a Uefa report revealed they generated commercial revenue of £46million in 2023.

That figure places the Glasgow giants in the top 20 European clubs and on a similar level to Napoli, Inter Milan and Ajax.

The Celtic board have faced criticism from fans for a lack of investment after the club’s 2022-23 accounts revealed that they made a profit of £40million with £67million in the bank.

Wyness told Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast:Not only was Celtic’s commercial revenue a great number, but it was the record for a Scottish club.

The club has been run very well since the Fergus McCann days and this is just testament to the fact they’ve got a very, very healthy balance sheet.

In terms of spending, the major focus is always Celtic versus Rangers.

If Celtic don’t win the title this year, then yes, the criticism will be very loud.

Fans don’t want money in the bank, we want silverware in the boardroom and we’ll be hearing that loud and clear.
