Celtic tipped to ‘get rid’ of David Turnbull in January – expert

Frank McAvennie has tipped David Turnbull to leave Celtic in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker insisted Ange Postecoglou will use the January window to offload fringe players to facilitate new arrivals.

According to the Glasgow Times (24 November), the Celts have resurrected their interest in attacking midfielder Mohamed Afsha Magdy.

The 26-year-old currently plays for Cairo giants Al Ahly and Egyptian media reports suggest that the Glasgow club are keen on a loan deal in January.

The Egypt international has just under two years left on his contract.

Postecoglou is spoilt for choice in the midfield following recent arrivals of Matt O’Riley, Reo Hatate and Aaron Mooy and players like Turnbull have struggled for starts.

Turnbull, 23, will have a year left on his contract at the end of the season.

McAvennie insisted now is the time for Postecoglou to sell.

I would think they will get rid of a few,” he told Football Insider.

“There is a few players on the fringes that will go. I think he [Postecoglou] knows what he likes. O’Riley is great, [Callum] McGregor, Hatate.

I like Turnbull but in Ange’s side he is just too slow. The way they fling the ball about, everything is quick. Players like that, on the fringe, have got to go to let players come in and fight for a place.

Not just coming in and doing alright but somebody that can stamp their authority like O’Riley did. That is what Ange has got to bring in now.
