Celtic tipped to sell Edouard before deadline as big-money demands reported – pundit

Alan Hutton has tipped Celtic to strike a deal to sell Odsonne Edouard before next week’s transfer deadline day.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Hoops would want to recoup the reported £9million spent on him in 2018.

As reported by the Scottish Sun (14th August) the 23-year-old’s £85,000-a-week wage demands caused Southampton to back out of a move.

Brighton are also said to have baulked at what the striker is asking for to leave Parkhead.

His contract at Celtic runs out next summer, meaning the Bhoys risk losing him on a free.

Hutton suggested the Hoops would be looking to cash in before the transfer deadline on August 31st.

He tipped there to be a deal done, despite Edouard’s demands.

Hutton told Football Insider deputy editor Russell Edge: “It’s not an ideal situation to be in at all. Obviously, they spent a lot of money on him and they’ll be looking to recoup that with a transfer fee.

“Really, from Celtic’s point of view, you sell him now or tie him down to a new contract. It’s a difficult situation to be in.

“Only Edouard will know what he wants to do moving forward. I just hope he’s not like that, by putting teams off with his wage demands.

“I’ve always believed that you have to go and prove yourself first. Then that side of it takes care of itself.

“It’s an interesting one to see how it plays out. It wouldn’t surprise me if there was some sort of movement before the window shuts.”

Edouard has scored 86 goal in 177 appearances for the Bhoys to date.

In other news, another Celtic player’s move to England all but done after official update, claims pundit.
