Celtic to blow Rangers away after ‘£50m’ reveal – Stefan Borson

Rangers could only make around £5million from the Europa League group stage this season despite their strong start.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that is significantly less than the £50million he expects Celtic to make from the Champions League.

Rangers are playing in the Europa League after failing to make it through the qualifying rounds of the Champions League.

The Scottish giants have beaten Malmo and FCSB in two of their opening three games, while they suffered a defeat against Lyon at Ibrox.

Philippe Clement’s side sit 11th in the revamped 36-team league phase of the competition, with the top eight teams qualifying automatically for the knockout rounds and ninth to 24th taking part in a play-off.

Rangers are currently third in the Scottish Premiership table, meaning they could once again miss out on a Champions League spot for next season.

Rangers need Champions League due to increased revenue

Borson insisted the Glasgow club need to be playing in the Champions League due to the increased money on offer.

He told Football Insider: “A successful run in the Europa League just doesn’t compare at all to a Champions League run, especially now with the eight games in the group stage.

“You would think Celtic are going to do in excess of £50million in this group stage, whereas Rangers will be doing less than £10million.

“I would think much less than £10million, probably less than £5million.

Rangers

“That’s a 10x difference between the two competitions.

“They obviously know they need to be in the Champions League, but it’s easier said than done.”
